PRAYER & FASTING | 2025
A word of encouragement
Pastor Troy Singleterry
As we begin this week of prayer and fasting, we are believing God to do extraordinary things through the ordinary things we do by praying and fasting this week. Martin Luther said, "To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.” I truly believe in the power of prayer. And I believe that one prayer can accomplish more than all our plans.
That is why I would encourage you to join us this week and let’s believe God for greater things to come. Please read the paragraphs below and focus each day on the prayer prompts that have been put together for us.
Blessings,
Pastor Troy
7 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Pastor Lori Soto
Let’s kick off 2025 with PRAYER! Don’t miss out—Your blessing is around the corner! Through our weeklong church-wide Prayer and Fasting emphasis, Sunday, January 12 - Sunday, January 19, we dedicate this new year to serve the Lord wholeheartedly! Let’s declare God's goodness and pray expectantly for a mighty move of God for our future as individuals, families, and as a church. Let’s bind our faith together believing God for a year of protection, healing, spiritual growth, harvest, and abundance! We decree blessings over you as we stand on God’s word declaring 2 Corinthians 9:8-11:
And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity. 9 As it is written and forever remains written, “He [the benevolent and generous person] scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness endures forever!” 10 Now He who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love]. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit].”
Tips for our 7 days of Prayer & Fasting as a church family
As a spiritual discipline rooted in Scripture, fasting ignites a spiritual hunger for more of God. As you fast, you choose to go without something good in order to focus more intently on something better. You assume a spirit of humility and submission before God, inviting the Holy Spirit to take you deeper into your relationship with Him. When combined with prayer and repentance, fasting can position you for tremendous growth!
Typically, fasting means going without food. This can mean fasting from only selected foods or meals for a span of days or weeks, or fasting from all food entirely. Consult your health care provider if you if you have health considerations or intend to participate in an extended fast. Note that it’s common for people to still drink juice, water, or broth while fasting from solid foods.
At times, fasting involves going without something other than food. For example, you might choose to fast from social media, television, coffee, or anything else that you enjoy. Rather than devoting time and energy to those pursuits, you choose to focus on the things of God and experience Him more fully.
Through humble prayer, decide what you will be fasting during the 7 days and identify the area of your life where you most need God to step in. Determine what lifestyle adjustments you will need to make, then use the handout (prayer prompts) provided in the lobby or on our social platforms (Instagram: @cityviewsd) daily beginning 1/12 to guide you through these 7 days.
Write down your most needed breakthroughs and submit them to God through prayer.
A Note to Parents
Discuss with your children how prayer and fasting are spiritual practices that prepare the way for God to work in your lives. Help your children identify what they will fast and how they would like to see a move of God. Take time to pray together as a family and believe together for these things!
Let’s believe God for your breakthroughs and miracles in 2025—Let’s UNITE our FAITH together in PRAYER!
PRAYER PROMPTS FOR 7 DAYS OF PRAYER
Day 1: Sunday, January 12 – Connection with God
Rom. 8:15 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “[a]Abba! Father!”
Thank God that He is your Heavenly Father, and you are blessed to be a child of God! Declare your desire to connect with Him relationally.
We aren’t interested in practicing religion, instead we desire a growing relationship with God.
Day 2: Monday, January 13 – Grace & Forgiveness
1 John 1:9 9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises] and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].
Ask God to check your heart and life and show you areas you need to ask forgiveness and need some tuning up in. Forgive others who have offended you. Ask God to forgive you and to help you choose to forgive others.
Remember Jesus set a standard of grace and forgiveness, not legalism and condemnation. He went to the Cross to offer you forgiveness, and He offers it to you freely
Day 3: Tuesday, January 14 – Worship Wholeheartedly
Psalm 86:12 12 I will give thanks and praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
And will glorify Your name forevermore.
Proclaim who God is and remind yourself of His power and might by declaring His names: God is Righteous-He makes us clean, God is Sanctifier-He has called us and set us apart, God is Healer-He heals all our diseases, God is a banner of Victory-He defeated our enemies, God is Shepherd-He speaks to us and leads us, God is Peace-He is our peace in every storm, God is Provider-His supplies are limitless. Decree to worship God wholeheartedly this year!
Day 4: Wednesday, January 15 – Faith in God’s Ability
Jeremiah 32:17 17 ‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too difficult or too wonderful for You—
God is more than able to move in every situation. Remind yourself of God’s limitless power and then return to praising Him!
Day 5: Thursday, January 16 – Dependance on God
Psalm 121:1-2 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem]—From where shall my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord.
God wants us to come to Him with all our problems, needs or desires. Trust He not only hears our cries for help, but He is a God of action. Ask God for what you need today—what’s on your heart and mind? Bring your worries or desires to Him and surrender it to Him in prayer—He is more than capable to handle any situation big or small.
Day 6: Friday, January 17 – Battle Weapons
2 Cor. 10:4-5 4 The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,
When we are aware of spiritual battles, we can be active in praying through them. You can command anything that comes against the truth of God and His word to bow to the Name of Jesus! Take a bold stand and pray confidently through God’s power and His Spirit for your spiritual battle. Use the weapon of prayer that God has given you to destroy any attempts of the enemy to try to steal, kill or destroy what God has purposed and divinely set up for you!
Day 7: Saturday, January 18 – Faith & Healing
Psalm 103:2-5 Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits; 3 Who forgives all your sins, Who heals all your diseases; 4 Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you [lavishly] with lovingkindness and tender mercy; 5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the [soaring] eagle.
Our God is the God of Miracles! Just like the stories in the Bible—He still performs miraculous healing today. In faith ask God for healing in specific or all areas of your life and proclaim His power and goodness, believing and trusting Him to take care of you or those you are praying healing for. Declare this is your year for miracles and healing in every way!
Reflection for Sunday, January 19 – Celebrate: This is Just the Beginning
Matthew 7:7 7 Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you.
Our prayer is that having prioritized the first of the year with 7 days of prayer & fasting as a church family, you have grown in your relationship with Jesus and this has jump-started a new love for prayer. We encourage you to remain faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12). Continue to connect with Jesus on a daily basis—talking, worshipping and praying as you journey through life.
Your spiritual growth is the most important part of you! Celebrate in faith what God has done and will continue to do in you, your family and our church!
Remember— we keep praying for answered prayers until our last breath! You got this!
